A good a day as any to start a thread on this.  It's OU-Texas weekend.  I think our big college football rivalries might be the closest thing to the atmosphere of derbies over there.

Oklahoma - Texas is unique in that it's on a neutral field (The Cotton Bowl) in the middle of the State Fair or Texas in Dallas.  The Cotton Bowl is conveniently halfway between Norman (OU) and Austin (Texas),200 miles from each campus.  Each side brings 46,000 fans, with Oklahoma fans in crimson on one side of the 50 yard line and Texas in burnt orange on the other.

It's halftime... Oklahoma leads 17-13 despite having just one first down...  Their TDs came off of a kick return and an interception.

And while I live in Texas, I went to Oklahoma... so I'm in crimson and cream today.  I never wear burnt orange... never.

Time for my Sooners, who despite a record breaking performance by Samaje Perine a couple weeks ago (427 yards rushing) are having a rather disappointing 8-3 season, to perform their annual whooping on Oklahoma State.  There's a name for this derby... Bedlam... but it's not much of a battle, as Oklahoma is 84-17-7 all time in the series.

Even when OSU is high ranked, it doesn't usually matter, like last year when they hosted the game but lost, knocking them from a BCS Bowl bid (that my Sooners happily picked up on the way to STOMPING Alabama in the Sugar Bowl)...

Kickoff is 8:30 UK time, which gives me some time to get Saturday chores done between games.

And thus ends another college football season for Oklahoma...

I gotta tell y'all... nothing on any NCFC board or call-in show compares to the collective hot&cold meltdown idiocy of the Sooner Nation.  With seven national titles and over 40 conference championships, this is more like watching ManU fall apart last season.

Today is National College Signing Day... where high school athletes sign their letter of commitment to the school they wish to attend and play for.  Many of the signings are foregone conclusions thanks to publicized verbal commitments, but there's still some drama to be had.  A lot of the big name recruits have press conferences announcing their intentions... it's all very silly on one level.

Oklahoma's entering class looks to be crap.  From what I understand they did very little out-of-state recruiting this year (typically about 40% of their players come from Texas).
