Great interview of Grant Holt here for anybody who follows him: http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/carlisle-united/latest/grant-holt-wigan-treatment-petty-but-won-t-get-me-down-1.1168777
Explains his treatment at Wigan, a brief mention of Norwich - giving us credit for giving former players jobs (talking about Carlisle):
Holt has strong views on United. He believes the club could go further commercially, do more for young fans, reconnect with its soul. “At Norwich you’ve got Adrian Forbes coaching the Under-15s, Darren Huckerby doing the 18s, Neil Adams the manager. Lads who have come back. We don’t use that enough here.
Uwe Rosler also responded to the criticism, his reason is really lame. I now feel pretty sorry for Grant Holt to be honest. Pretty shoddy treatment, the only reason given was that Holt had refused to move closer to Wigan. But he was very vocal before signing for Wigan that he wanted to move back to Carlisle and they signed him knowing that.
“I have not read the interview, I do not know what he has said,” Rosler told the Evening Post.
“I think heading into the game tomorrow is probably not the right time to start to open up a discussion.
“The only thing I can say is that two weeks after I started in the job I asked Grant Holt to make a commitment to the club like the club made a commitment to him with the three-year contract in terms of moving closer to the area.
“Grant did not want to do that and then we both knew where we were heading.
“Grant got an unbelievable chance going to Aston Villa which we did not deny him and we moved on. When he returned to Villa I said I think it was better that we went separate ways.
“We were always honest with him, always up front. We asked for a commitment and I didn’t get that commitment and that is why we moved on.”
If that is the reason then sounds like Rosler is being very heavy handed. A lot of people wanted him as Norwich manager, but he sounds like a petty moron and Wigan are 21st in the league despite having a fairly strong squad with some very talented players (Maloney, McMananaman, Watson, etc).
The honest answer would probably have been that they want to force him out to save cash. Rosler loses face here in my opinion, and Wigan fans look like tossers for the vitriol they give him on twitter.
