Kell Brook vs Shawn Porter

I'm not a massive boxing fan, but I can get up for the big fights. So when Hatton faced Mayweather, I stayed up late. Then Froch vs Groves happened and it ignited my interest in the sport again.

Now we have Kell Brook fighting in Vegas this Saturday night, and a win could mean he faces the best of the best. If he does beat Porter on Saturday, I think a fight against Khan or Maidana is on the cards and a win there and he could find himself up against Mayweather in 18 months.

However his 32 fight unbeaten record is full of names, most people wouldn't even recognise. He's a decent fighter, but I have no idea if he is a World Class fighter. We'll find out this Saturday.

Is anyone going to watch?

Just seen the fight and a superb victory for Kell. He was patient and wore Porter down and then took advantage in the late rounds. Good to see him come up trumps in a true test abroad. I think that signals another big domestic fight with Amir Khan, and that would be another cracker and another sold out arena at Wembley.

Hi mate, I'm a boxing fan but knew I wouldn't be watching this fight so didn't want to comment. Kell Brook really needed to 'step up' as they say, and last night he did. In fairness to Brook he wasn't really dodging anybody, has just been fixated on an Amir Khan domestic fight.

Khan has been dodging Brook and I think I can see through Khan a little, he just wants a major payday against Mayweather - Khan will leave this sport early, doesn't have faith in himself and realises now that he has one major flaw, he's chinny.

If there were any justice in the sport then Brook would get his Khan fight - a huge domestic fight which would sell out Wembley, and the winner of that fight would go on to fight Mayweather in Vegas (or London). If Khan lost that fight he would have no right to call himself an elite fighter (which he does, quite frequently) and would probably be career over. Which is why he doesn't want the fight, he wants his big payday first. Looks increasingly like he isn't going to get it, so the £8m purse on offer to fight Brook may be the next best golden goodbye.

Brook was 5th in the Ring Welterweight rankings before last night, just beat Porter who was in 4th, Khan was in 9th. Brook will overtake Porter now, to rank 4th. What boxing really needs right now is a Brook vs Khan domestic fight, I think Brook would win it, career over Khan, and I think Mayweather would find it difficult to refuse to fight the winner without losing some face.

The whole country wants to see this. It would be bigger than Froch vs Groves.

Absolutely, I've never really been a fan of Khan, mainly because I just don't see the love of the sport with him. As you mentioned, he's just looking for a payday against Mayweather. The fight could have been made plenty of times and it never has been so taking a fight against Brook at home would be the most logical step, in terms of his career and his wallet. I read a few quotes this morning from Khan saying he's happy to get the fight done and as you mentioned, it will sell out Wembley in no time and the winner of that fighting Mayweather makes a ton of sense.

I do quite like Brook, although I wish he'd keep his hands up. However he has a good chin, good movement and as showcased last night, his Jab is superb.

Haha, i was on holiday and so only just watched the fight, been hiding from everything and everyone to not have it spoilt.

That was one of the fights of the year for me, once he got cut i feared the worse, everything looked against him other than his coolness throughout... He was continually being butted and then ref was asking Kell to pull out for holding Porter's head, and not saying anything the other way... But he was cool cool cool cool! He didn't let it upset him, he didn't complain, he didn't stand rubbing his head like some - and i thought no matter what the result after 12 rounds he could hold his head up high.

I felt he had outboxed Porter for majority of rounds and was screaming at Jim Watt's assessment throughout the fight who clearly believed the hype after Porter destroyed malignalli and was being his usual sensationalist self calling painful punches which never were!  Sure we normally see Kell physically dominating, but we knew that wasn't going to be the case here.

Thought Porter was tough, but wasn't a pleasing sight for boxing in my opinion and thought it was a foregone conclusion that if Watt had it scored how he had, that the US judges surely would've given it to Porter at the end.

However, as soon as i heard 'And the NEW', i went totally bananas... Wasn't the biggest fan of Brook's in the past, but he has earnt my utmost respect and become yet another sportsman this country should be proud of.  Absolutely absorbing fight, and very pleased for Hearn, Kell, Ingle and the rest of the crew, what great belief they all showed.

Only watched it an hour ago, so i'm still totally buzzing!!!

Did anyone hear that Kell Brook is in hospital in Spain after being stabbed in the leg. Apparently he lost a lot of blood but is in stable condition, strangely enough this is the second time in his career he has been stabbed!

It will almost certainly delay his next fight though which is a shame as keeping the public interest is all about momentum.
